  1. Before you head out, make sure you have a valid Alaska fishing license. You can purchase a license online or at local fishing supply stores. 2. Make sure you have all the necessary fishing gear for ocean fishing. This includes fishing rods, reels, lines, and bait. It's always a good idea to bring extra gear in case of any malfunctions or unexpected breakages. A good place to start is our local Alaskan Sporting Goods Store B&J Sporting Goods - B&J Sporting Goods (bnjsg.com)

  4. Using a fish finder can greatly increase your chances of catching fish. Make sure you have a functioning fish finder and know how to use it properly. Your Guide will have this on board when you book our fishing charter packages.

  5. Kodiak Island's ocean can be vast and unpredictable. Make sure you have navigation equipment, such as a GPS, Chart plotter, or compass, to ensure you stay on course and can find your way back to shore. All our boats have this as standard equipment.

  6. Cooler or Ice Chest Once you've caught fish, you'll need to keep them fresh until you get back to shore. Bring a cooler or ice chest with plenty of ice to keep your catch cold.

  7. You'll need cleaning equipment to prepare your catch for cooking or freezing. This includes knives, cutting boards, and a fillet table. Try this all in one designed by a local Alaskan: PacBak™

  8. Make sure you're up-to-date on the fishing regulations for Kodiak Island. Regulations can vary based on the species of fish and the location of your fishing trip. Found Here: Southwest Alaska Sport Fish Regulations, Alaska Department of Fish and Game

  9. Fishing can be a long and tiring activity, so make sure you bring plenty of snacks and water to keep yourself hydrated and energized. You'll have your packed lunch provided for your fishing adventures with Harbor Adventure Lodge.

  10. Finally, don't forget to bring a camera to capture the memories of your fishing trip. Whether it's a breathtaking view of the ocean or a prized catch, you'll want to capture the moment. One highly recommended option is the GoPro Hero 10 GoPro HERO10 Black Action Camera (Webcam, Wifi, Underwater)
